You have to be kidding, have you checked your calendar lately, mine says 2016. Give this a break, there are too many laws that exempt bias on a racial basis. ESPECIALLY where housing is concerned.

It seems like you are the one that's pushing racial ideals to me.

gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter intimidation is another very real bias still today. these backdoor politics and methods hinder people of diversity who have tried to vote, or will vote in 2016. I would say visit the southern US to get a grasp of this. but I was a victim here in 2012 of the crazed agenda of then secretary of state scott gessler. so from first hand experience, yea racial biases still exist today even within our politics...........

folks this is a very heavy topic! and it is one that still divides us here in America. and what I experience/think/feel/believe to what my counter experiences/thinks/feels/believes will not most likely change me or their core ideology through conversations. yet it's such a critical issue that needs to be openly discussed! and hopefully it may shed some kind of new perspective to each one of us. I know this week I was enlightened by evidence of the shooting in MN that made me rethink my position of that incident.

I would like to say I applaud most everyone who has contributed to this thread. its great to see "most" everyone talk and respond to each other with some form of respect. most boards of this nature, another that i belong to. in no way could the discussion go on this long without some one derailing, hijacking, or have someone threaten another. so thanks everyone for keeping the conversation to a mostly civil one! hopefully we all understand. even with our fundamental differences. we all have to be each others neighbors. lets interact with each other differently then our politicians do. because I hope we can all agree. our politicians interactions with each other, congress/senate, has become so toxic!

it's also great to hear the brilliant women who have responded. it's insight for me who I could share amazing and valuable time with. I tend to engage in longer dates. so those who think alike, you know........

No, I will Not Shut Up. I’ll not be intimidated by you.

I spent the day with my client from Turkey, her American husband and their 6 yr old precious daughter. Bey had just returned from Turkey after a 3 month stay there for the 2nd time in Lei’s life. Jay stayed home. Bey flew out of Istanbul 6 hours before the airport terrorist massacre. And now they’re killing each other there too. They always have. We always have.

She’s been my client now for 15 years. Her perspective of America is jaded, especially recently, she also experiences ignorant people in America because her accent is heavy, and she looks like a hard workin Turkish farm girl. Her enthusiasm level since she’s returned has diminished substantially. I see as she’s an outsider looking in, she’s concerned. She says she’ll probably never return to Turkey again now, and she’s very concerned about what’s going on here, and worldwide as well.

Maybe I’m just a great big pussy for even starting this thread, but no I will not shut the fuck up and I’ll not be intimidated by you.

How do Jay, Bey, and Lei feel about you posting their names and background here? For real. You did that and thought it was a good idea. Also, what was intimidating in 2 big's post? There weren't any threats in it. Does it scare you when black folks speak up? And do you find it ironic that by saying "all lives matter" you're being intentionally dismissive of black lives mattering? But speak your piece. Shout down the black folks. Last time they organized a movement we ended up with stuff like the Civil Rights Act, so who knows what evil lurks behind getting cops to stop summarily executing them in the street.

Obviously not their real names. Backgrounds really no different than mine. My grandfather came over from Europe as well. I'm not ashamed of it. Yes he was poor. I never said "All Lives Matter", I said "Lives Matter". This part I do agree with and think it's gone to far " so who knows what evil lurks behind getting cops to stop summarily executing them in the street." You don't know me...don't even dare judge me.

Um, the very first post you submitted says "all lives matter." You know. The post that started the whole thread. Then you repeated it in the second post. The tropes you post are drab relics of a bygone era. The hinting at having a black friend. The touching on the whole 'colorblind' idea. Btw that's a perk of being in a dominate group. Lot harder to be 'blind' to issues of race when you are on the receiving end of those issues.

I point out the names and background of your client to highlight your ignorance of others. You made them pretty identifiable and linked them to this hobby without regard to what they'd think of it. It's the same concept when an old white dude decides he's going to shout down the BLM movement. No regard for what black folks face in this country. Just worried about whether it threatens old white guys. But you know, good on ya for not being intimidated out of trying to oppress an already oppressed population.

I do dare judge you. I find your character wanting. And I think you should take 2 big's advice.

Thanks for posting this.

The only thing I have to this is: We are all one race, the human race. The faster people figure this out, the faster we can all live together in peace.

We all want that, right? I know I do.

My gut says "really prove this" IF you follow the rules even illegal aliens can vote. let me repeat that.... ILLEGAL ALIENS CAN VOTE!... Where is your proof on this?

I didn't think so. It's nice to think that the government keeps the "honest folks" from voting, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

I suggest you do a little homework on the subject.

Point in fact YOU HAVE TO REGISTER like everyone else.

Charles Barkley.  "We never get mad when black people kill each other, which that has always bothered me … I’ve always said if we as black people want more respect, we have to give each other respect. You can’t demand respect from white people and the cops if you don’t respect each other. We’ve got to do better as black people."

You mean like the evil that lurks behind getting racists to stop summarily executing cops like in Baton Rouge this morning? Or Dallas? Pull a gun on the cops and you're going to get shot. Doesn't matter what color you are. Difficult concept for some to acknowledge.

Reading your posts is what it would be like to be living pre 1960's with Internet.

Against my better judgement because trying to have a meaningful and productive discussion of race relations on an escort board is a little like discussing quantum singularities and string theory on twitter, here goes.

First off the media needs to stop fanning the flames simply to gain viewer ratings and/or circulation.  The hype is off the charts.  CNN and Fox - simply two different disgusting flavors of the same slop for those too lazy to think for themselves.  If ever we are to make progress on ANY issue in this country we have to get past the mindless drivel expounded on both sides that is eagerly lapped up as inspired gospel.  The two major political parties are worse than the media in ignoring the facts and fanning controversy to suit their own narrow agenda - getting elected again and again without fixing anything.  (make mine Gary Johnson, but i digress)

Perception becomes reality.  The black community has the perception that whitey and the cops are out to get them and can't be trusted.  Why? Well start with a couple hundred years or more of clearly documented  abuse and being shit on from all sides.  Was major progress started in the middle to end of last century? Hell yes.  Was the memory and perceptions of all the hundreds of years of crap magically wiped out by that progress?  No, it will take time.  And a lot more time as long as there is actual prejudice remaining - and there is -  and organized groups constantly fanning the flames.  Are there numerous cases of black cops shooting unarmed people of BOTH white and black color?  Yes, but I will not play the diversion game and focus on.  I will simply note the media hype machine INTENTIONALLY ignores some while hyping others to suite their purposes.

The cops have the perception - and growing every day - that the citizens they serve (yeah, the majority really are trying to serve IMHO) are out to kill them, injure them,  level false charges against them - pure case of us versus them bunker mentality.  Why?  Talk to some cops sometime or just pay attention to the news (with of course an eye out for hype and bs there too) Because to an increasing degree a significant number of deranged individuals urged on by the media and other groups' hype ARE out to get them.

How to fix it?  It will take both sides committing to see and admit reality, let go of the hype and dogma on both sides and all to recognize there is nothing to be gained by continued hate, discrimination, exaggerated claims to justify personal bad behavior, etc.  and everything to be gained by working sincerely together to make it better.   It will require BOTH (ALL - its not just two) colors working together and agreeing to make it better despite assholes on both sides that like it just the way it is or used to be. And we will never get anywhere as long as the best the sides have to offer is their politicized and slanted narrative followed by telling the other side to shut the fuck up.

OK, done for now.  Placing helmet on head in anticipation of flying rocks.

Gr8wol, you stated that pretty dang well.  I have read some very damn good points and different perspectives in this loaded thread. My bra is off to Fishindude for throwing this out here. And with all of these responses we have made in this thread, it is something we as society in general are very concerned with. We have whites, blacks  all jumping into the frey of this message. Lives, all lives have family. Family loves us. It is not rocket scientry when dealing with LE.  Use your friggan' head (the main one) when dea.ling with the po-po people. They too want to go home, and they are scared of us.

Case in point: ANd I swear on a stack of bibles this is true.

Last night about 1 A.M. I was driving down Sheridan near Edgewater.  A cop saw that I have a headlight out and he then turned around to follow me awhile. Then  the red lights. Now when my name is ran thru there little cop car pc it comes back with the fact that I have a minor criminal transgression from way back in time, It is there for all time. Cops love my last name as it rolls of their cop tongues. Each and every time I am pulled over I get this routine. It starts : Miss ____ , do you have any knives, guns, drugs, bombs, terrorist activity, etc. blah, blah, blah. BTW, I am just a ordinary white female, and I hardly look like a threat to any one. But because  I am aware of the guys in blue and their attitudes I therefor conduct myself carefully. I want to go home to my dog. She loves me. And I don't care to meet a bondsman. So, my hands stay on my steering wheel UNTIL the officer is standing beside my window. Then I tell him I am reaching into my purse for my wallet. All in sight.  He let me go home with a warning.

You want to live, then use your brain and realize  that "They" are scared of "Us". And "they" have guns and "they" have bullets.  Sure profiling is something that for a black male driving a nice car gets tired of.  And this white girl is damned tired for her victimless crime she committed so long ago  following her through her  life and her minor traffic stops. And her good Irish name being flippantly rolled off their cop tongues, But I am intelligent enough to know that how I act when I am pulled over has a lot to do with the outcome of the event.

The senator in Twobig's link  stated his point clearly and with feeling. It is a goddamned travesty that  we still have this hatred to contend with. And innocents pay the ultimate price. But if we stay aware of ourselves, our surroundings and the attitudes around us we have bettered the outcome of the event

Sheesh, Jez, (me thinking out loud) Old girl, you jumped on this band wagon didn't you. So to end my tirade on a lighter note -but one I feel strongly about........And don't anyone even try to say I don't care about black lives. Because I do care. I care a lot about what I see happening  today. And I will care tomorrow and all the tomorrows that I have left in my life.[snip]

I agree with you gr8wl.  There is still a lot of problems in our society, but it is better than what was in past.  Too many people use these problems to get elected or make money.  Media and politicians make it look worse or ignore the problems depends on where their beliefs fall.

No one knows what really went down in those situations as we weren't there.

The media has to share a large portion of the blame for the "retaliation"  shootings of police in Dallas and Baton Rouge et al.

Politicians get the rest of the blame.

When stopped by a cop, remember that they are in control. And as Jez said, "They have guns...". Anything you do to take away that control, as they perceive it, makes them very nervous. I don't want to be dealing with a nervous cop.

This is in no way meant to excuse or condone bad cops, as there are some out there.

The first one you posed had to due with the fact that the person in question didn't register properly, ( yes some of the rules can be confusing and not seem "fair") but it's the law....the rest of them came from less than reliable sources.

Think progress? The huffington Post? Mother Jones? Really?

I'm more than certain it happens more than anyone would like (one time is more than I would like) but for the most part we have a good system (user beware) and follow the rules otherwise the Huffington Post or Motherjones might run a story about your failure to properly register to vote.

Thanks for posting this, it made me think.

I did read what I posted. Did you read the part where in 2013 the Supreme Court overturned a very important part of the Voting Rights Act and made it easier for states to discriminate? They slid that in silently as it was announced by our President that banning gay marriage was unconstitutional, it was sneaky and on purpose.

You may not agree with my sources and they may be slanted (and I get it but Mother Jones is not an extreme site and HuffPo is actually considered to be credible source and they're better than Gawker, Slate or BuzzFeed) but it's real and I am glad you are thinking about it. Sites with a Liberal lean obviously have a bias but they're also not totally dishonest. Think Progress had been spreading the truth about Flint several months before it made any sort of big headlines. I looked and looked but it really is next to impossible to find a conservative news site that reports on voter suppression and does so with any sort of responsibility. I mean that truly with no snark. I occasionally read The Blaze, Breitbart, Reason or when I really want to punish myself TPNN. I try to see all sides but I very much have a liberal lean and I did try and pick the least extreme sources.

I guess the point is that the process needs to be made simpler so that no one gets left out.

And no, I will have to look again and review the Supreme Court's decision on the Voting Rights Act, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will check it out.
