There are several members that seem to have disappeared that just seemed to have a knack for humor, wit, and asking new questions.  Some ladies in particular that if it were in person I am sure they could just lift the whole mood of the room just by walking in.  Guessing long time members know who I mean.  Certainly there have been a few new ones come in that fit that description (see second post in thread ) but seems as though more have left than new to take their place.  Probably just a phase. On a brighter note, there seem to be some missing trolls as well 

I, for one, am glad that many of the trolls have disappeared. The main reason why I left the local TNA board was because of trolls like Donny Dark and his ilk. That board became so dominated by him and others like him that it was impossible to get any sort of rational discourse going. I also left TOB in the past because of being immediately flamed by some when I had just introduced myself again under another user name. I enjoy the lessening of flames on this site so that a more useful exchange of information can be obtained.

When this board started under the new format, there were bugs with posting and reviews. I noticed that it enabled eccie.net to recruit new members and they packed up their toys,  left this site and vilified it in the process instead of allowing this site to work out its bugs. When I saw that the transition to this site seemed smoother, that's when I decided to rejoin.

That said, I wonder where Crazy Horse has been??

His sudden drop off/lack of posting or response to this board is kind of strange to me. Did he get "black balled" because of his opinions? There are several others that seem to be missing that had a flair for being a "free spirit" and calling things for what they are so to speak.

Is there something going on here, or is it just my imagination?

Crazy Horse is logged in as I post this. When the board changed formats, he was clearly unhappy with the changes. He's still reading, obviously, just not posting. I'm sure he's getting what he paid for! 

Posters come and go. Over the years (since the start in 2001) hundreds of people, both "free spirits" and trolls, have left. Hundreds have joined. Few people seem to stay in  this "hobby" for a lifetime.

It should also be noted that for a significant period prior to the transition, CH was absent more often than not. We all go through times when we are more active on the boards, for myriad reasons.

I think it is quite possible that CH reads the forums, but his responses might be filtered or blocked.  I have heard that has happened to some of the oldtimers who liked to crank up the heat a bit.

I've never posted often. I visit mostly for the resources. It's a small community, so the topics will always be slow moving. There were times on the old site where I'd skip visiting for a month, and the top stuff from the last visit was only halfway down the page. 

I've always thought the moderation was always a little over zealous. Flame wars happen. Hell, some times it's good to let it happen. Let a few people yell at each other for a few posts in one thread and shit doesn't spill over everywhere else. 

Mostly though, it's the same problem as all other online communication. No one 'receives' information, or opinions, online, they give it. It's a true rarity to see anyone change their mind about something in a forum discussion. Everyone not only has to be right, they have to make all the wrong people see what's really right. 

Anyhow, I've been around in one form or another since 2006. It's been that way since I got here. Still a great resource for reviews, absolutely the best spot for a newbie to learn, but not really the place I'd hang around for stimulating conversation.

By opening the topics up we are encouraging more dialog, we do see that membership is increasing. In addition to the new membership, we have also had some long time lurkers start to participate as well:)

That's cool. A bigger community is a bigger resource. I've got nothing against the changes. Site looks nice and modern now. Few things I'd add is on the review form, add "no show" to the time option if that's going to be a mandatory field.  Only other thing would be once you've clicked into a thread, add a link back to the forum for us multi-tab junkies. Like at the top of this one, where it says " Started by sparkey600, 10 December " maybe add "in Colorado" with a link back to the Colorado forum.

For the moderation thing, it's less about topics and just letting more personality flow within a thread. It's more of a gut instinct kind of thing, not something to write a hard and fast rule for. I mod for a large and a medium size forums on Reddit. It's just something you have to build a feel for. The large size community there has hard and fast rules. Everything is on topic and very sanitary. It really cuts down on the conversation.

I'm curious how the reference thing works. Is it similar to P411 OKs?
