Seemed weird - but read on: Same new ad showed up in BP when I search the phone number given in the scam ad. If you're worried about the car, then you can always leave a hidden key on the car (magnetic lock) and don't carry keys in with you. Leave everything else except the donation locked in the car. Although, I would always carry an ID. If you get arrested it's probably better to have an ID than to not. If you don't have one, you are definitely going for a ride downtown and the wife or someone is going to have to fetch it for you... good luck with that. If that gets stolen it's easy to claim you lost it and replace it. I don't consider the phone being worth anything. It's a throw-away hobby phone.
