How often have you heard the mantra,

"Stay Out Of Lakewood!"?

And where is the Federal Center located?

The Mayor and the city of Lakewood are aggressive at keeping elements that they feel hurt local business out of the city. I can't complain as I have benefited from this. Sometimes they have a reputation of being over aggressive at times.

There are some advantaged to the federal center. There are hotels in the area, right off 6th ave. but the city might be less than welcoming.

By the way, Google Maps has a useful feature in connection with this discussion. If you enter "City, State" in the search field, without any other information (no street names!), the map will show the exact boundaries of the city. (examples)

Lakewood, CO

Wheat Ridge, CO

Arvada, CO

I noticed that there are some budget hotels at I-70 and Kipling St, which is in Wheat Ridge not Lakewood - I don't know anything specific about this location.

Sorry, I should have checked your location field. It has just become a standard reply here for anyone asking about the Lakewood area. As others have said, city LE have it in for the denizens of this board (and others of our ilk) - it's NOT a safe place to play.

Well, there's "budget but respectable", and "ultra-budget, not respectable" hotels. I have found reviews on tripadvisor.com reasonably accurate (if you take the "average" of the reviews) for sorting out ok hotels from ones to stay away from.

Again, using Wheat Ridge just as an example, here is a list of hotels in that fair city by tripadvisor.com review ranking, from Holiday Inn Express (pretty good) to American Motel ("horrible, dirty, dangerous", "Bed Bugs! Bed Bugs! Bed Bugs!").

I used to live near I-70 and Kipling. Those hotels are pretty low end.

I have a place here in Aurora you can stay! :D

On a serious note... I would stay out of Jefferson County period.

This county is one you do not want to be charged with ANYTHING in.

The county includes Lakewood, Arvada, Wheatridge and Golden.

Regards

Lone Tree is OK - just a bit out of the way.

Maybe for you it is out of the way but for me....

It's right next door! All a matter of perspective I suppose.

But due mostly to the diligence of those on this board, I will never meet someone for the first time in Lakewood. Now once I have met her a few times and know her, I have no problem meeting in Lakewood or anywhere else that she might want to book a room.
