Posted May 16, 2012 Home HIV test could prevent 4,000 infections annually 1 hr ago If you thought waiting three minutes to get pregnancy test results was excruciating, try killing 20 minutes while that home HIV test processes. Despite the wait, the OraQuick test that's just been unanimously recommended by an advisory panel for FDA approval is still probably more appealing than visiting the doctor and may also encourage those at risk to check themselves out. Officials estimate that about 240,000 Americans unknowingly carry the virus and predict a home test could prevent 4,000 new transmissions annually. The test diagnoses infection using a mouth swab instead of fussy blood samples. The test gives accurate results 99 percent of the time when used by a pro, though it's correct only 93 percent of the time when used by mere mortals.
Posted May 17, 2012 I've used at home ones in the past...20 mins is a lot better than what it used to be when you did them at home..more like a week or two. Then you had to call a number and have a moment of paranoia. I always did them at times when I knew I would be distracted (like Christmas lol) and it was okay. Mine at the doctor last week took about four days for me to get the results back-they did the blood sample one, but that's partially because I like to be tested for everything under the sun, not just HIV.

Agree..best to be tested for everything...which is adult video industry practice (every 30 days ). That said..I started this thread to alert TOB readers that a "NEW..IMPOROVED" home method for HIV testing is about to come onto the market.
Posted May 17, 2012 This is a great product. Never uese a home test before, I get checked yearlyby my doctor for everything. My question is, If I took a couple to a provider and we took them together, would that be rude?
Posted May 17, 2012 I think it would be weird. What if your test comes up positive? Do you really want to be in an appointment with a provider at that time? What on earth are you guys going to talk about while you wait the 20 mins? The weather? I think that would be extremely uncomfortable. If my test was ever going to come up positive, I sure would not want to be sitting next to a random client JMO.

I guess I need to think a little more before I post

Posted May 18, 2012 I think it would be weird. What if your test comes up positive? Do you really want to be in an appointment with a provider at that time? Porn directer/producer/performer Ed Powers has told me many times about the time he hired a very hot, very healthy looking, very sexy girl to shoot for his "Dirty Debutantes" series. He sent her to AIM HealthCare for an HIV/STD test and booked her for a shoot .On the scheduled day of filming,he asked her for her test results and she admitted that she hadn't gone back to the clinic to get the paperwork. "No problem, (he said ) I'll call and have them fax it over." Meantime, he got rock hard waiting for the results as they talked about the weather. The fax arrived..and she turned out to be HIV Positive. So he consoled her , sent her home and dodged a bullet that day. So yes, regular testing is a good thing and its way cool that they're refining testing methods.
