WHY...When you start to question the motivations of those in power and why they do the things they do one can often find themselves in trouble. That's never stopped me from being a trouble maker though; in fact some may even point out that it is my special talent. Just call me the Thomas Paine of hobbying crying out for a little common sense.

Now no one can deny that administrative functions needed to be restored to the board to keep it running soothly but more importantly to combat the rash of attacks by trolls that we had been under. Unfortunately just like throughout most of history our joy at being liberated has closed our eyes to what our liberators are attempting to do to us. So let's look at some of the recent changes that have occurred to TOB and ask a few ...WHYS.

A call for a new review format? Why? In the history of TOB the one in use now is like the 3rd or 4th so it's not change that I can't adjust to as I've adjusted to all the previous ones. According to the poll on the topic the ability to easily search for all of a lady's reviews as well as all of the reviewers previous posts is a function we don't want to give up. Could the real reason the review board needs to be changed is this:

We've run into a few issues adding Nevada to the TOB Review Database, which means we'll will need a bit of time to find a reasonable solution.

In the meantime, please feel free to continue posting reviews on www.lvfever.com. That database will always be accessible, even after we get the new reviews posted on TOB.

It would seem as though there's nothing wrong with the TOB review board other than the incompatibilty of joining the LV review board to it.

Which brings us to another question as to why the Texas boards were dropped, the LV boards added and a new General discussion board added as well. They are all interrelated so bare with me as I try to explain. It is an obvious attempt to move TOB from being a parochial Denver board into a more national one. Do we need to ask who would benefit most from these changes; would it be the Colorado users that built TOB into what it is today?

The Texas boards were used a bit more than the previous Kansas boards were but still there were as many or more Colorado people posting on them as there were local users. The same can be said for the new LV boards. The LV locals don't want to use them at all; most of the posts have been from Colorado users. Which would be the purpose for a General discussion, to separate local issues from general topics if you could get anyone else to use it. Unfortunately just as in politics all hobbying is local.

So why Las Vegas? If you examine the GinaXXX empire LV is in the top three locations in terms of the number of ladies signed up on P411 and Escort Photos. Along with Colorado and Texas those locals far out strip in terms of numbers even much larger metro areas like NY and Chicago. The Texans proved that they were more interested in their own local board so that pretty much left LV for Gina to work with.

LV is also a national destination though so that hopefully someone looking for a local LV board could be directed to a more national GinaXXX board which is what she wants TOB to be.

Now if at this point you're asking yourself why let's look at another change. The allowing of advertising info into signature lines. The reason Gina offers is this:

The reason I want to allow contact info in signatures is because I want providers to utilize the board more, which in turn brings in more clients, which brings in more providers, and so on... and so on. My idea of a vibrant community is one that grows and evolves through time, and I'm going to do what I can to encourage everyone's participation.

I don't know how much actual new participation to the discussions a +1 will add just so that a lady can get her large garish ad reposted but Gina is right about one thing. The guys will follow the ladies and the growth of that community is what is needed to contribute to the P411 bottom line which coincidently comes from fee paying guys. Which is also the desire to see TOB grow beyond a local Colorado board.

Hide it behind any terms you may find pleasing but the motives for all the changes are not the "vibrant community is one that grows and evolves through time." The evolution we are being demanded to go through is one of profit growth for a single individual. Now this would not be considered strange for any of us old timers that have seen the GinaXXX empire grow on the back of TOB. If it wasn't for the one the other could not have happened and as with most people enough is never enough.

Some will try to dismiss this as simple opposition to change but as I've pointed out earlier TOB has gone through several changes that has not been as upsetting to the community as the recent ones; WHY? Some may try to dismiss this as guys being upset at being under control of a woman. Possible but I wonder if that woman had simply come in and saved us from the troll attacks instead of attempting changes that were so obviously calculated to increase her bottom line would we not have all(guys and gals)welcomed her as a liberator as opposed just to another corporate greed monger making changes not for the good of the community but that of the bottom line. A little something to think about.

I thought I would post while this is still up. I seldom agree with what CH has to say but this is one time I do. The discussion board, review board, EB, and P411 have a symbiotic relationship but once their is no distinction between them they lose thier effectiveness. The number of posting on the discussion board seems to be going down even with the providers advertising here. Not all change is for the better.

I agree with Wendy. This is something I use and enjoy, and would gladly pay to use. I appreciate the hard work, and hours given by the mods. It definitely feels better to me than it did not too long ago. I won't complain, this place has been good to me.

I've always paid for TOB. It was the least I could do, since I was going to make an income from EscortBoards when T.O. asked me to take over the Advertising. I am now in control of everything related to TOB and have T.O.'s blessing to do with the site as I see fit

Actually, the GinaXXX Empire grew on the back on Private Connection, which was my former agency that was started in Dallas in 2002 (after I had closed Denver Cream and moved from Denver). It was from the need to farm out reference requests for Private Connection clients, that P411 grew.

EscortBoards, and it's relationship with TOB, has always been very small cheese I'm sorry to say. I've spent many years trying to grow it, with zero success. In fact, it's shrunk year by year, and I would LOVE to see that turn around. So any changes I've made here, are to try to get EscortBoards doing better.

Yes, some traffic is sent to EscortBoards from the TOB/LVfever... and that is the ONLY reason I am still here. If it wouldn't mean the death of EscortBoards to give them up, I would in a heartbeat.

Nevada reviews was already been added to TOB Reviews early last week. That was never a huge issue. The issue is that the TOB Review Database needs a major, very expensive, overhaul. I don't want to fork the $$ out for it.... and keeping it the way it is is asking more from the Review Moderators than I should be asking. It needs work, big time, believe it or not.

Everything I have done up until now has been to try to keep the TOB community FREE for users, while not costing me too much time and money. Currently, it's costing me way too much time, and if I rebuild the Review Database, it will cost me way too much money.

However, you are correct.... I AM motivated by profit, and if TOB ends up costing me more than just a little money, that cost will be passed on to the users. Whether it be because I sell TOB and LVfever to someone else, or because I set it up to generate an income through reviews, that definitely could happen.

If you want TOB to continue to be FREE, I suggest that users don't make running it a headache for me, and the mods. Don't for one second think that I won't turn this into a pay site one day, because I am absolutely driven by profit.... you don't work for free, and neither do I.

This is a Capitalist society, people are motivated by profit, there is NOTHING wrong with that. I, for one, truly appreciate all the work it must take to keep this Board running. I also do love the fact that it is free. I visit here pretty much everyday and I try to pretty much patronize only ladies who advertise on EB. I hope this site remains a free one. I understand about the problems with the reviews but I really would prefer it remains the way it is. If reviews were posted immediately all the false and self reviewing items would be posted. I like the fact that some research is done before they are posted. I'm sorry that causes more work but at least it prevents these kind of things from happening.

I'm gonna agree with CH to the extent that I'm not a fan of separating the General Discussion from the Colorado board, for whatever reasons. Seems to be leading to less participation in both.

FYI, you can be free from seeing signatures if you want. In your User CP, in Settings & Options, go into Edit Options and unclick the box "Show Signatures." No sigs makes the board SO much more readable, less clutter... I honestly don't know how or why anyone would read this board with all the annoying sigs everywhere, but that's me.

First off I am sure no one gives a rat ass what I have to say but I will post it anyway: P

I have not spent more than a couple weeks a year in Colorado for the past three years yet I continue to visit tob a couple times a week if not every day. Why? I enjoy reading the posts I lurk more than I contribute but I have learned a lot about this hobby from the user’s of this board and it’s nice to know I am not the only dirty old man out there! When I first found TOB I was on sowet and one of the fine ladies pointed me in this direction I am sure someone here can tell it much better than me and please do! But as I recall it was named The Other Board for a reason!

I may not like all the changes but I can live with it I am glad to see that Gina has taken over. For a while the board was going downhill fast spam, trolls and many of the posters who I enjoy had vanished now I am slowly seeing some of them come back!

Simple solutions if you do not like the signatures turn them off! (I used to keep them on just to see Destiny’s bouncing Boobies) but now that we have the 30 foot billboards under the posts I turned them off MY CHOICE was simple and easy poof problem fixed!

Now saying that I kind of like the txt add for the signature keeps me from having to dig around to find the ladies contact info but I dislike the banner like I said easy solution turn them off if you do not like them.

Anyway…….. Wow sorry about the book I for one welcome our new Canadian overlord!

I recommend the admins create a survey which asks the users of the board about changes prior to making them. Surveys are easy to make and host, and are free: use Drupal 7 and you'll have it done and posted in an hour. vBulletin likely has something integrated which will allow a survey also.

At least if we are given the vote, and one side wins, and the admin goes with the losing side, we'll see where the priorities are. LOL

Why don't you use a strategy similar to Wikipedia or Wikileaks, and simply ask people for small anonymous donations?

If I could donate anonymously, I'd have done so a few times by now. Five here, ten there, it can add up quickly. If you put something up with a goal of $10,000 by the end of the year, I bet you'd make it. People here understand the value of TOB and, with the key being anonymous donations, I think many of us would donate at least a bit.

I understand it's not a democracy, but it would still be constructive to survey people because it would allow people to see direction, and it would allow you to see whether your user base is satisfied. A satisfied user base will accept the introduction of new profit streams (e.g. advertisements). I think that if you intend to move towards a profit stream, ascertaining the satisfaction of your users as far as the future of the site goes is rational.
